Hot dog! We celebrated the 4th of July!
This year for the 4th of July, we hunkered down in Wickenburg with my family, braving the record breaking Arizona summer temps with a BBQ shindig in my parent’s backyard. Call it patriotism, call it crazy–but by the end of night we were as annoyingly sticky as the melted popsicle puddles on the pavement.
DAMN, Arizona.
Alas, here are some pics of our July 🙂
The Cottage’s patriotic decor

We are still madly renovating the inside of the cottage so no interior decor sadly. I was just a tad devastated to not unearth my 4th of July village from storage this year. Ohhhh, the pain. I was wretched.
I did decorate the outside, however. I intended to do a lot more than what we did but you know, it was hotter than hell and I got cranky LOL.

Last year I bought these firework lights off Amazon and I just love them! They flash exactly like fireworks which makes my compulsively festive butt purrrrrrrrrrr.

4th of shindig backyard set up

Yes! Even in the scorching heat, I managed to set up some retro lawn furniture and hang up some flags!
Whoop te doo! I’m so festive, I can’t stand it.

My sister had set up one of those stationary/exercise pools in my parent’s backyard. It quickly became the grandkid’s play pool LOL. So what the heck, I threw in a 4th of July bomb pop floatie and tried to decorate the pool with bunting LOL. Yeah. a bit of an epic Pinterest Fail but hey! STILL FREAKING FESTIVE.
My adorable niece Ava is a summer lovin’ vibe.
family bbq

We threw some burgers and hot dogs on David’s Pitt Boss and cut up a big ole’ watermelon and laid out red gingham tablecloths.
We did have some issues with the playlist. My Dad kept taking over the Bluetooth speaker, blaring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Battle Hymn of the Republic which made the BBQ hoppin’ LOL. I’m sure our neighbors LOVED it.

Mr. & mrs. festive

Well look at us, being festive and all.
water balloon battle

Ava’s obvious water balloon bliss is just too cute. But man, do boys get INTENSE.
fireworks in the driveway

We moved to the front of the house and started blasting off grocery store fireworks and sprinklers.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I love the chaos in this pic.

I ended the night by cutting into the Coca Cola chocolate cake that I like to make every year for the 4th of July. Plop a big scoop of vanilla ice cream onto your gooey cake and you’re golden.
Perfect treat while watching the endless fireworks popping in the driveway, hopping the house doesn’t burn down LOL.

Happy 4th of July!
Xoxo,
Courtney
