Two weeks ago David and I hit-the-road-jack to Willcox, AZ!
Confession: I never went to a pumpkin patch before I started dating David. What? Pumpkin patches are rare form in Arizona! My pumpkins always came from those giant cardboard boxes in Safeway. No more! David is STAUNCHLY dedicated to getting his pumpkins from the actual earth, straight off the vine. In fact, he has a “pumpkin patch” shirt which is a Peanuts/Snoopy “Great Pumpkin Believer” shirt that he wears every year. A staunch traditionalist myself, I like that about him.
Fun fact! He actually proposed to me here! So yeah, we like the good ole Apple Annie’s pumpkin patch.
We have lucked out the past two years with ACTUAL fall weather! This year it even lightly rained! And there was such a lovely, crisp, almost cold chill in the air. Years past it was so unbearably HOT. I would come away from the patch with sunburn and near heat exhaustion.
Okay–allow me to gush but the set up at Apple Annies is so damn cuuuute. Basic broad heaven, all the way! From the tractor hay ride that takes you out to the fields to pick your own pumpkins, a corn maze, a kettle corn stand, and a little country store. And those sunflower fields! Or rows of acorn squash, butternut squash, bell peppers–vegetables galore–that you can pick your own.
Makes me feel like a proper Laura Ingalls for a day.

All them pumpkins, glorious pumpkins!

Me, forcing my long suffering husband to take dorky pictures of me on the damn farm equipment LOL.

Okay, I didn’t realize broccoli grew like this???

Hay ride, baby!

Behold! The Great Pumpkin Believer himself.

Every year I snatch a bundle of corn stalks to put by the front door. David had LOTS of fun working this into my Ford Focus LOL. Yep! Corn stalks are the approximate length of a Ford Focus, FYI.

I think Willcox is super cute. They even have one of those classic walk-up Dairy Queens. Perfect little ending to our outing for the day:)

See you next year, Apple Annies:)
Courtney

So fun!Â
