GroundHogs Day

Groundhogs Day. I feel like this holiday only gets properly celebrated in 1) Punxsutawney, PA 2) in the news 3) in elementary school.

I love how just ABSURD this holiday is.

Like imagine trying to explain this holiday to someone who barely knows English and is visiting America for the first time. “On February 2nd…there is a groundhog–which is like a big hamster with buck teeth– and in a small town you can barely spell or pronounce in Pennsylvania. Okay so there is like this society of men who get dressed like Victorian aristocrats in top hats. So they have this special stick that they use to knock on the door to a tree stump that is on stage. They pull the groundhog our, hoist him in the air while the crowd goes wild, and then the rodent literally whispers into the man’s ear and tells him if he sees his shadow or not. If he sees his shadow? Six more weeks of winter.

Oh, and the groundhog’s name is Phil.”

Excuse me while I LOL. But in a good way. I tend to laugh first, but then totally adore them immediately afterwards.

The giant groundhog mascot! Like COME ON!

I totally want to visit Punxsutawney, PA to witness this spectacle myself. Like SERIOUSLY. I would eat this crap up!

A couple years ago while falling down the Pinterest rabbit hole, I happened to find all of these like…kid crafts and Groundhog’s Day party ideas complete with themed party food ideas. Of course I created a Pinterest board ASAP LOL. You can find all of the Groundhog’s Day internet gold on my damn nifty Pinterest board below LOL.

Plus. The movie Groundhogs Day. OMG. Bill Murray. I got you babe. Genius movie.

Everything about this holiday is just…weird and I freaking love it.

And I’m gonna celebrate it, by golly. Last year we made sticky rolls and watched Groundhogs Day. You know, “These sticky buns are just heaven.” Ba ha ha–go ahead, rolls your eyes.

But this year I surprised David with a nice homemade meal of ta-freaking-da! Groundhog Meatloaf LOL.

My masterpiece LOL.

Nothing like a meatloaf with whiskers and … stares at you.

Dinner and a show!

Okay but I will leave you with this. I found the hilarious polka song from the movie on Spotify LMAO.

Here’s to six more weeks of winter! I got you BABE!
